Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with EBD and LD, ensuring that each student receives tailored support and accommodations to meet their unique learning needs.
• Provide specialized instruction and support to students with EBD and LD, using evidence-based practices and strategies to promote academic, social, and emotional growth.
• Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and other support staff to ensure that all students receive a comprehensive and cohesive education.
• Assess student progress, identifying areas of strength and weakness, and adjusting instruction to meet the evolving needs of each student.
• Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on student progress, and involving them in the educational planning process.
• Participate in professional development opportunities, staying current with best practices in special education, and sharing knowledge and expertise with colleagues.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress, including IEPs, progress reports, and other relevant documentation.

Essential Qualifications

• Current Minnesota teaching license in Special Education, with endorsement in EBD and/or LD.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in special education, preferably in an urban, multicultural setting.
• Strong knowledge of special education laws, policies, and procedures, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other support staff.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with a high degree of flexibility and adaptability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
• Experience with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and other evidence-based practices.
• Knowledge of assistive technology and other tools to support students with diverse learning needs.
• Experience with culturally responsive teaching practices and trauma-informed care.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
