About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Android Software Engineer to join our Lead mobile team, responsible for developing and maintaining the Target Android and iOS shopping application. As a Senior Android Engineer, you will own the development, testing, and quality of new features in collaboration with product and design partners. You will stay up-to-date with technology trends and advancements in mobile and wearable technologies, research and evaluate new technologies, and provide objective feedback on innovations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own development, testing, and quality of new features in collaboration with product and design partners
- Stay current with technology trends and advancements in mobile and wearable technologies
- Research, evaluate, and provide objective feedback on new technologies
- Inform development plans with relevant technology insights
- Develop fully functional prototypes to test against hypotheses
- Create clear and concise technical specifications for internal and external use
- Continuously develop and maintain technical expertise
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of experience in software design and development
- 3+ years of experience in developing applications for Android
- Experience developing in Kotlin, including using coroutines
- Experience with distributing mobile applications through open app stores and/or enterprise channels
- Strong knowledge of working with dynamic data using services (e.g., JSON, REST APIs, etc.)
- Experience with performance profiling and tuning consumer-facing mobile applications
- Excellent hands-on skills with Android app development tools, including Android Studio and the Android SDK
- Good communication and collaboration skills with strong organizational abilities
- Proactively helps drive innovation within the company
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience with Jetpack Compose
- Experience integrating libraries with Gradle and using other third-party systems tools and SDKs, such as Retrofit, Moshi, and Epoxy
- Experience with dependency injection frameworks like Koin, Hilt, or Dagger
- Experience with instrumented UI testing with Espresso
- Experience with continuous delivery in mobile, including Test- or behavior-driven development, code reviews, static analyses, continuous integration, automation, and functional testing
- Experience with secure authentication using OAuth and authentication tokens
