Job Overview
As a Part-time School Bus Driver, you will play a critical role in providing safe and efficient transportation for our students on assigned routes. You will be responsible for operating a school bus in compliance with all Federal and State DOT requirements, maintaining student order and discipline, and performing pre and post-trip vehicle inspections. You will also be required to communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and administrators, and maintain accurate records and logs as required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a school bus in compliance with all Federal and State DOT requirements
- Maintain student order and discipline in accordance with departmental and district guidelines and policies
- Perform pre and post-trip vehicle inspections as set forth in the PA Motor Vehicle Code
- Follow assigned routes and notify the Department Router and Fleet Manager of any deviations, changes, or unsafe conditions
- Maintain a complete and legible route book and complete monthly mileage logs with accuracy
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and administrators
- Maintain accurate records and logs as required, including time sheets and vehicle repair requests
- Attend all in-service training meetings as required by the district and/or department
- Abide by all district and departmental policies and regulations as written
Essential Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A High School Diploma or Equivalent
- A valid Pennsylvania CDL Driver's license with School Bus and Air Brake endorsement (or be willing to obtain)
- A minimum of three years of accident/violation-free driving history
- No record of DUI or felony while operating a motor vehicle
- A clear criminal record as set forth in PA Act 34 or Act 151
- The ability to pass an annual school bus driver's physical as set forth in the Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Code
- Physical ability to render aid to students in the event of an accident or emergency
- The ability to read and speak English
Preferred Qualifications:
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Previous experience as a school bus driver
- Knowledge of Federal and State DOT regulations
- Experience working with students with special needs
- Bilingual or multilingual skills
Skills and Competencies:
To be successful in this role, you must possess:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance
- Ability to maintain accurate records and logs
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job, including lifting, carrying, and pushing
