Job Summary
As a Part-Time Lead Before and After School Instructor, you will play a vital role in our Before and After-School Enrichment (BASE) program at Louisa Alcott Elementary. You will guide elementary-age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands-on learning activities, while supporting the program supervisor and teaching teamwork and social-emotional learning skills. You will also have the opportunity to support our Play Everyday Program, a recess-based program at the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum provided by the YDCoE
- Supervise a group of children to ensure their health and safety and provide a positive experience for each child
- May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children
- Professionally communicate day-to-day, confidential, and evaluative information with parents/guardians
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures
- Assist in maintaining a developmentally appropriate site, including appearance, décor, and cleanliness
- May prepare and serve snacks, clean the snack area, and assist with check-in/check-out for parents
- Assume responsibility for program operation when DCYF-designated and qualified staff are not on premises
- Provide onsite support for the school-based Play Everyday Program
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
Requirements:
- 18 years of age or older
- 2 or more years of experience working with children in camps, child care, tutoring, or nannying
- Ability to model and demonstrate Y values: caring, respect, responsibility, and honesty
- Experience planning and implementing group activities
- Completed 12 credits of 100-level or above college-level coursework and have a GED or high school diploma
- Transcripts will be required during the offer stage to ensure applicants meet state licensing requirements pre-hire
- Completion of minimum STARS required training
- Certification in CPR/First aid
- TB test by Mantoux method
- Food worker card
- Cleared Portable Background Check in the statewide registry MERIT
Preferred Qualifications:
- 21 years of age or older
- Leadership or supervisory experience (1-2 years)
- Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.)
- Ability to speak any language in addition to English

Work Environment:

As a part-time instructor, you can expect to work Monday through Friday, 6:45 am to start of school and end of school to 6:00 pm, with some flexibility to support the Play Everyday Program 2-4 days per week.
