Key Responsibilities
- Preparing federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, businesses, and organizations with accuracy and timeliness.
- Ensuring accurate and timely filing of consolidated federal, state, and local income tax returns and other business-related filings.
- Identifying and implementing opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures to increase efficiency and reduce risk.
- Developing and implementing strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state taxes to minimize tax liabilities.
- Managing members of the tax team as they prepare components of the company's US federal income tax return and state tax returns.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and regulations, and ensuring company compliance with all tax requirements.
- Advising management on the impact of new laws on tax liabilities and providing recommendations for tax planning.
- Coordinating audits by various taxation authorities and responding to audit inquiries.
- Negotiating with tax authorities over tax payment issues and resolving disputes.
- Advising on tax implications of business investments and transactions to ensure informed decision-making.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must possess the following essential qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar Tax Accountant role.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting from an accredited institution.
- At least 1 year of public accounting experience and 1 year of Tax Accounting experience.
- Experience with CCH Axcess or related tax software (we're currently migrating to CCH).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to research and analyze tax issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex tax concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy with a high level of organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance, and procedures for corporations.
- Familiarity with U.S. federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
- Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly in Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- CPA or CPA Eligible certification (or a strong interest in obtaining CPA certification in the long term).
- Experience with tax planning and advisory services.
- Knowledge of tax laws and regulations, including recent changes and updates.
