Job Responsibilities
As the Chief Architect, you will play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining a global payments platform that interfaces with various systems inside and outside Wayfair. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the technical lead in the payments space, designing and building a platform that connects with multiple systems and partner globally
- Developing and driving a long-term technology strategy for Wayfair's fintech and loyalty environment
- Designing and reviewing code to implement high-quality, scalable, and future-proof services that meet system limits and support long-term vision and strategy
- Leading technical discussions across the platform and helping to reach solid documented resolutions
- Driving high-impact building solutions and involved development, including initiation, design, implementation, and delivery following good design and coding practices
- Fanatically focusing on production readiness for the team, including testing, monitoring, deployment, documentation, and proactive troubleshooting
- Identifying risks and gaps in technical approaches and proposing solutions to meet the department's technical vision
- Impacting and contributing to the division's strategy and roadmap
- Supporting the growth of other engineers technically by mentoring, pairing, and creating other opportunities for training
- Being remotely recognized as a collaborative and trustworthy subject matter expert for the broader team's core area
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- 4+ years of experience in engineering, with a preference for candidates with a mix of start-up and large company experience
- Strong technical skills, with expertise in payments engineering, particularly experience with larger scope integrations (Visa, funding, BNPL, applications)
- Experience with internet businesses or customer-facing technology on a high-traffic website is a significant plus
- Active experience leading software changes within high-growth environments at scale
- Excellent communication skills, with experience leading teams forward and the ability to influence results
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
- Experience with cloud-native technologies (GCP, AWS, Azure) at scale
- Distributed systems experience
- Data-based technologies in the cloud
