Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. UL Research Institutes is dedicated to advancing safety science research, and they are seeking a Post-Doctoral Researcher who will perform independent research in safety STEM education. The role involves conducting research projects, building community relationships, and contributing to educational materials and publications.
Responsibilities
- Builds collaborative relationships with community members, serving as a key liaison between the project team and community participants
- Conducts primary research in collaboration with a diverse group of: community members (particularly those with interest or expertise in local disaster risks), experts from informal learning centers, education researchers, and educators
- Exercises a high degree of judgment in formulating, evaluating, and correlating broad research concepts, guiding the analysis of unique problems, and developing new and improved techniques and methods
- Assume primary responsibility for implementing primary components of a research project
- Assist with research design, data collection, analysis, reporting, , and support researchers on additional projects
- Design, implement, and document validation processes, including member checking
- Perform research to a high standard and in accordance with all institutional and federal regulations
- Collaborate with ULRI colleagues and universities
- Contribute to and participate in community presentations, webinars, conference presentations, writing papers for journal publications, and training programs
- Participate as an engaged, committed mentee with a team of mentors led by IREE’s Executive Director and Vice President
Skills
- Proven ability to conduct community-focused research and support development of publications and other work products
- Demonstrated knowledge of participatory and community research principles and methods
- Ability to support research in informal learning and community settings
- Demonstrated ability to maintain academic and applied knowledge and skills
- Ability to collaborate with peers and work directly with other team members and external collaborators – particularly community members – in order to complete a project from start to finish
- Excellent report, publication, presentation and general communication skills required
- Ph.D. in education research or other social sciences, conferred within three years of application or completion of Ph.D. requirements by commencement of appointment
- Experience working with marginalized communities, rural communities, and / or informal learning settings required
- Ability to travel regularly to rural communities in Pinal County
