About the Role
As a REMOTE Loss Mitigation FHA Claims Specialist, you'll play a critical role in preparing, filing, and following up on FHA home retention claims with precision and timeliness, adhering to investor/insurer guidelines and company policies. This position requires a strong foundation in mortgage servicing default experience, with a focus on FHA claims, and the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file HUD claims accurately and on time, according to investor/insurer/CMS guidelines and requirements.
- Conduct semi-daily follow-ups on outstanding claim proceeds to ensure timely resolution.
- Perform loan-level reconciliations for final claim proceeds, verifying the amount claimed, paid, and outstanding loan indebtedness, including escrow and corporate advances.
- Correct error files by cancelling claims and/or processing refund requests to HUD as needed.
- Provide posting instructions for claim proceeds within 24 hours of receipt.
- Review and ensure the timely and accurate completion of all scheduled steps, inputting completion dates and obtaining approval for any modifications.
- Perform daily routine follow-ups and keep supervisors informed of trends, problems, and potential issues, including claim denials, curtailments, and processing delays.
- Document all servicing actions, delays, follow-ups, and phone conversations in system notes.
- Ensure timely imaging of all claim documents and maintain control of HUD audit files.
- Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to team success.
Essential Qualifications
To excel in this role, you'll need:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent work experience; some college education is preferred.
- One to two years of mortgage servicing default experience, with a focus on FHA claims, is highly desirable.
- A strong understanding of the loss mitigation and claims process, with the ability to navigate complex guidelines and regulations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines.
- A keen attention to detail and problem-solving skills, with a focus on quality and accuracy in loan evaluation.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to teamwork and a commitment to achieving shared goals.
Preferred Qualifications
While not essential, the following qualifications can enhance your application:
- Previous FHA claims experience, demonstrating a deep understanding of FHA guidelines and requirements.
- A background in mortgage servicing, with a strong knowledge of default servicing processes and procedures.
