We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate Counsel to join our team in defending lawsuits filed in Oregon courts and other first-party insurance defense matters. As a key member of our Staff Counsel team, you will play a critical role in researching laws, preparing legal briefs, and rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value. Job Highlights:
- Position: Associate Counsel - Portland, OR (Remote)
- Location: Remote (initial 2-3 days in-office training, then remote with occasional in-person case appearances)
- Start Date: Immediate openings available
- Compensation: Competitive salary ($110,000 - $171,000 per year) and comprehensive benefits package

Key Responsibilities:
- Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
- Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
- Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions and examinations under oath
- Defend cases by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable
Requirements:
- 2-6+ years of experience in a related field (insurance defense or civil litigation)
- Juris Doctor degree
- Admission to the Oregon Bar
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organization, priority setting, and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to travel as required (including trials, hearings, and depositions)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Civil litigation experience
- Insurance defense-related litigation experience
