The role involves providing technical support to operations, improving manufacturing processes, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Ensure that manufacturing processes are in full compliance to Health, Safety & Environmental Standards and meet the expectations of the Zero Harm program
- Ensure that manufacturing processes are capable of achieving and sustaining the design definition, and that processes are followed so that our products and those of our suppliers conform to their specification
- Rigorously raise, investigate and resolve safety related issues
- Drive a culture of zero defects within the organization
- Works with all functions to reduce risk and drive product Right First Time
- Ensure compliance to all relevant company, legislative and technical policies and standards including RRMS, SABRe and Export Control and Intellectual Property requirements
- Ensure application of manufacturing process controls within their area of accountability, with authorization subject to appropriate delegation
- Act as MEA or PCA signatory, where applicable
- Identify and develop opportunities for new or improved manufacturing processes, digital systems and technologies to meet current or future requirements
- Plan and manage activities including schedule, resources and costs, gaining buy-off and communicating current status to relevant stakeholders
- Ensure issues and risks are resolved to meet project timescales
- Develop, implement, validate, maintain and continuously improve manufacturing processes, digital systems and/or methods of manufacture which are capable of meeting and continue to meet requirements for safety, quality, cost, delivery rate and lead time
- Capture, analyze and use data to demonstrate and improve the current and future capability of manufacturing processes
- Working with the Manufacturing Engineering Commodity Leaders and Manufacturing Process Owners, drive manufacturing processes towards identified consistent best practice
- Work with interfacing teams and local experts to ensure technical aspects of manufacturing processes and digital systems are understood and accounted for as required
- Capture and utilize lessons learnt
- Identify, document and share best practice, including by participation in relevant Communities of Practice
- Responsible for self-development to meet the required competencies for the role
- Continuously seek to expand knowledge and experience to increase effectiveness in undertaking existing and new activities
- Provides coaching and technical support to others within their area of competence
- Operate beneficial relationships with partners and suppliers to enable delivery of their objectives

- General understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to their business
- General awareness of Manufacturing Systems and enabling software tools relevant to the business
- Understanding of Manufacturing Engineering processes relevant to their role
- Experience with manufacturing process development using CAD/ CAM
- Experience with aerospace materials, tolerances and processes, PFMEA, PPAP, Process Excellence (six sigma), and Lean Manufacturing best practices is strongly desirable
- Understanding of manufacturing processing of Aerospace components
- Project management experience working in a manufacturing environment, dealing with multiple customers/suppliers simultaneously, with excellent written and oral communication skills
- Extensive experience in PFMEA (Process Failure Modes Effects and Analysis), Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, Manufacturing Technology, Process Audits, and Design For Manufacturability/Assembly (DFM/DFA)
- Knowledge and understanding of DZD (Drive to Zero Defects) and ability to lead cross functional teams of suppliers and RR personnel through this initiative
- Knowledge of FAIR (First Article Inspection Report) and Method Validation Approval (MVA) processes
- CAD Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, or Siemens NX
- A strong understanding of transferable features and methodologies—especially to NX—is highly valuable, particularly during legacy equipment transitions
- Design Interpretation & Clearance Analysis: Ability to utilize CAD tools to identify dimensional constraints and clearance issues during part and fixture design reviews
- G-Code Knowledge: Familiarity with G-code programming is essential, including the ability to trace variables and troubleshoot tooling geometry issues
- EDM Technology Fundamentals: Foundational understanding of various EDM platforms including Sinker, Wire, and Filmcool EDM
- Recognize how core EDM principles apply across different systems despite differing terminology
- Metallurgical Awareness: Understanding of how EDM energy parameters impact metallurgical properties, including surface integrity and heat-affected zones
- Print and Fixture Interpretation: Proficiency in reading legacy part prints and comparing them against fixture designs, especially in cases where GD&T standards are not fully implemented
- Process Optimization: Capability to optimize EDM operations for efficiency without compromising surface finish or metallurgical quality
- Must be able to balance burn rate, finish, and cycle time effectively
- End-to-End Process Planning: Competence in designing comprehensive, efficient, and operator-friendly EDM processes from initial setup through completion
- Root Cause Analysis: Ability to quickly isolate and identify changes in established processes—critical for maintaining stability in long-standing manufacturing routines
- Analytical Studies for Capital Justification: May be required to conduct time studies and capacity/load analyses to support and justify capital expenditure proposals for new equipment or process improvements
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively across diverse teams including design, engineering, operations, and maintenance
- Adaptability in Dynamic Environments: Ability to navigate shifting priorities and multitask under pressure while maintaining a focus on long-term project goals
- Time & Project Management: Skilled in coordinating with contractors and external vendors, organizing schedules, and ensuring timely completion of complex tasks alongside daily responsibilities
- Maintenance Coordination: Willingness to partner with maintenance teams to develop and implement support strategies for EDM systems
- Design Communication: Frequent collaboration with design engineers is expected, as EDM processes are often governed by Engineering Change (EC) controls
