About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Language Arts Teacher to join our team of dedicated educators. As a Language Arts Teacher, you will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging lesson plans that promote critical thinking, effective communication, and a love of reading and writing. You will work closely with students, parents, and colleagues to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic excellence and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and administer language arts curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area, and translate lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Teach knowledge and skills in language arts areas, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Design learning activities to demonstrate the application of language arts to everyday existence and problem-solving.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Maintains familiarity with district and Kansas State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:
- KSDE Certification/License: You must hold a valid Kansas teaching certification or license in Language Arts.
- Education: You must hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
- Experience: You must have prior teaching experience in Language Arts, preferably in a similar educational setting.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the essential qualifications, the following preferred qualifications would be an advantage:
- Master's degree in Education or a related field.
- Experience in developing and implementing language arts curriculum.
- Experience in working with students with special needs.
- Experience in using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
