Required Minimum Qualifications:
• Graduated from, currently enrolled in, or on break between semesters of a college program leading to a degree in wildlife ecology, biology, or a closely related natural resource field.
• At least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications:
B.S. degree in wildlife ecology, biology, or a closely related natural resource field.
Experience with at least one taxonomic group, such as mammals, birds, herptiles, fish, mussels, odonates, butterflies, or plants.
Job Description:
Wildlife Monitoring Technicians are needed to support Iowa’s Multiple Species Inventory and Monitoring (MSIM) program. Positions are based in Boone and Sioux City, Iowa, with travel throughout the state. As part of a field research and monitoring team, technicians will help collect biological data across different taxa.
The role requires individuals with a strong work ethic, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, and a high level of attention to detail and reliability in field and data tasks. Technicians may work long hours outdoors in various, sometimes extreme, weather conditions; walk long distances; carry field equipment over rough or uneven terrain; and wade through water during survey activities. The position requires flexibility to work weekends, holidays, nights, and evenings as needed, as well as the ability to travel overnight for work-related duties when necessary.
