Staff Accountant (Insurance Industry) – Contract to Hire

About the Role
IOS Staffing is seeking a Staff Accountant to support one of our clients in the insurance industry. This position is ideal for an accounting professional with strong analytical ability, excellent communication skills, and experience working within an insurance environment.
The right candidate will be highly detail-oriented, comfortable working with financial systems, and capable of managing accounting processes in a fast-paced environment. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with leadership and play an important part in maintaining accurate financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage and support month-end and year-end close processes
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
• Support premium trust accounting and agency bill processes
• Ensure financial reporting aligns with GAAP standards
• Assist with surplus lines tax reporting and compliance
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to maintain accurate financial records
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows and reporting processes
Required Qualifications
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within an MGA, insurance carrier, or agency
• Hands-on experience with Sage Intacct or similar accounting software (required)
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills
• Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and GAAP principles
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and within a team
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience using Bill.com for accounts payable processing
• Familiarity with policy administration systems
• Knowledge of insurance accounting workflows
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Must-Have Experience
• Prior experience working at an MGA writing commercial property and/or general liability lines
• Experience managing month-end and year-end close within an insurance environment
• Familiarity with surplus lines tax reporting and regulatory compliance
Interview Process
Qualified candidates will participate in interviews with senior leadership, which may include:
• A joint interview with the CFO and COO, or
• Two separate interviews with each executive.
