The Senior Accountant will be responsible for providing advanced accounting and financial reporting support across a portfolio of real estate-focused clients, working in coordination with senior client leads and firm leadership. This role requires extensive experience in real estate accounting, property-level reporting, and multi-entity environments, including ownership structures, management entities, and investment vehicles. The ideal candidate brings substantial experience across multiple general ledger systems and property management platforms such as AppFolio, Yardi, Rent Manager, and similar systems. This individual must be capable of independently managing high-volume, high-complexity accounting functions across multiple properties and entities while demonstrating CPA-level judgment, technical precision, and strong communication skills. Key Responsibilities In coordination with internal client leads, property managers, asset managers, and external stakeholders: • Oversee and execute full-cycle accounting for real estate portfolios, including property-level, management company, and holding entity books. • Ensure accurate classification and recording of all transactional activity across multiple properties and entities on a weekly and monthly basis. • Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including complex journal entries, accruals, intercompany allocations, and reconciliations. • Prepare and review property-level and consolidated financial statements (Balance Sheet, P&L, Cash Flow), including investor and lender reporting packages. • Reconcile bank accounts, escrow accounts, security deposits, mortgage statements, and capital expenditure schedules. • Oversee accounts payable and receivable cycles, tenant billing, CAM reconciliations, and lease-related accounting. • Manage fixed asset schedules, depreciation, construction-in-progress tracking, and capital improvement reporting. • Coordinate cash flow forecasting at both property and portfolio levels. • Support budgeting, variance analysis, and financial modeling for stabilized and development properties. • Prepare investor capital account reporting and support fund-level or ownership reporting structures where applicable. • Assist with audit preparation, lender compliance reporting, and tax support (K-1 coordination, partnership allocations, etc.). • Lead accounting system transitions, property onboarding/offboarding, and integrations between property management software and general ledger systems. • Identify and implement process improvements related to chart of accounts structure, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies. Core Competencies and Requirements • Deep knowledge of GAAP with significant experience in real estate accounting, including partnership structures, consolidations, intercompany eliminations, and multi-entity reporting. • Extensive experience with property management and real estate platforms such as AppFolio, Yardi, Rent Manager, and related systems. • Strong understanding of lease accounting, CAM reconciliations, security deposit tracking, and trust/escrow compliance. • Ability to navigate multiple ledger systems simultaneously (QBO, Sage, Xero, etc.) with high accuracy. • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling, and customized reporting. • Proven experience managing high transaction volumes across multiple properties and ownership structures. • Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and internal control discipline. • Comfortable operating independently in a remote, fast-paced, multi-client environment. • Experience with accounting system migrations and data integrity validation. • Tax familiarity (real estate partnerships, depreciation schedules, 1031 tracking) strongly preferred. • CPA designation or CPA-level technical competency highly preferred. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred). • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant focus on real estate and property accounting. • Demonstrated experience in multi-entity and investor-structured environments. • Prior experience within a family office, real estate investment firm, or outsourced accounting platform strongly preferred. • QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification or equivalent platform expertise preferred.
