Mental Map to Wellness Private Practice Innovation Internship
Location: DMV (Virginia DC Maryland)
Format: Remote with optional in-person opportunities
Commitment: 5–10 hours per week
Duration: 6 months
Why This Internship Is Different
Most therapy internships focus primarily on clinical techniques.
This internship is designed to help you understand how a modern therapy practice actually works — clinically, operationally, and strategically.
At Mental Map to Wellness, we operate using the Mental Map Method™, a structured treatment framework designed to help clients regain clarity, emotional stability, and direction in their lives.
Through this internship, you will gain exposure to how a therapy practice integrates:
• structured treatment models
• referral network development
• community partnerships
• educational outreach and content creation
• systems for building a sustainable private practice
You will see how a therapy practice grows intentionally rather than by chance.
What You Will Learn. Exposure to Modern Clinical Frameworks
Interns will gain an overview of how evidence-based treatment approaches are integrated within the Mental Map Method™, including:
• ADHD executive functioning coaching
• trauma treatment using EMDR
• CBT approaches for anxiety and depression
• Motivational Interviewing principles
Interns will also observe bi-weekly clinical case review discussions where treatment planning and clinical reasoning are discussed.
Important:
This internship provides educational exposure to clinical frameworks, but does not involve practicing therapy or clinical skill training.
2. How Therapy Practices Build Referral Networks
A thriving practice depends on strong professional relationships.
Interns will learn how Mental Map to Wellness develops ethical, long-term referral partnerships through:
• Psychology Today optimization
• therapist listserv engagement
• professional outreach and partnerships
• educational webinars
• SEO-optimized blog writing
• community engagement strategies
Interns may assist with:
• content creation
• outreach research
• webinar preparation
• referral network development projects
3. The Private Practice Growth Roadmap
You will gain insight into the real stages of building a therapy practice.
Phase 1 — Entering Private Practice
Building initial referral networks and developing clinical specialization.
Phase 2 — Transitioning to Full-Time Practice
Stabilizing caseloads and refining expertise.
Phase 3 — Scaling into a Group Practice
Leadership, systems development, clinician training, and expansion.
This perspective helps interns understand career pathways rarely discussed in graduate programs.
