Shift: Days; Day 5x8-Hour (08:00 - 17:00) Pacific Time; 40 Hours/Week
Pay Rate- $74.34/hr on W2 with NO BENEFITS

Position Summary
Under the direction of the manager, the Health Information Coder IV functions as a Lead Coder or performs highly complex coding requiring specialized expertise. This role involves oversight of workflow, productivity, and quality of abstracted data. The coder will act as a technical and informational resource, addressing coding queries, reconciling discrepancies, and supporting denial management.
As a Specialized Coder, the incumbent performs Oncology and Infusion Coding using advanced coding knowledge and judgment to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
• Review physicians’ notes and verify documentation compliance.
• Apply diagnostic and therapeutic codes (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS) accurately across multi-specialty areas.
• Analyze medical documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Enter and process charges in Epic according to departmental standards.
• Identify, document, and report potential compliance risks.
• Attend coding courses to stay current with Oncology Infusion procedures and diagnostic updates.
• Liaise with hospital departments to maintain and implement billing codes.
• Monitor CMS and Medi-Cal websites for high-complex and chemotherapy billing guidelines.
• Provide coding education and act as a technical resource for other coders.
• Cross-train within departments to ensure revenue optimization.
Qualifications
Required Certifications (any one):
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
• Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P)
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
• Certified Professional Coder – Hospital (CPC-H)
Experience & Skills:
• Minimum 5 years of acute multi-specialty hospital coding experience.
• Minimum 2 years of both Pro-Fee and Facility Coding.
• Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS systems.
• Experience with Oncology Coding and Infusion Coding highly preferred.
• Proficiency in Epic (required).
• Familiarity with CMS and local carrier regulations for teaching hospitals.
• Strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
• Ability to lead and serve as a technical resource for other coding staff.
Preferred:
• 4+ years of medical coding experience.
• Additional specialty coding certifications.
• Experience as a Medical Record Abstractor.
