Job Summary
As a Lead Data Scientist at Target, you will lead the development and implementation of advanced data science and machine learning solutions to tackle complex business problems in retail. You will utilize your expertise in data analysis, machine learning, and statistical modeling to drive business growth, improve operational efficiency, and enhance customer experiences. This is a full-time remote opportunity, offering a competitive salary range of $20-$30 per hour, with the flexibility to work from any location in the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of long-term forecasting algorithms that solve business problems in retail, leveraging advanced statistical and machine learning techniques.
- Automate manual processes and decision-making through the application of data science and statistical models, transforming retail operations.
- Analyze large volumes of time-series data to generate actionable insights, driving new and innovative applications.
- Investigate complex data sets, assess business issues, develop problem statements, define metrics, and drive possibility studies.
- Perform data analysis tasks, extract insights, and create story sheets from data analysis.
- Present clear and concise root-cause analysis to peer researchers and leadership.
- Develop and lead large-scale implementations of machine learning models and algorithmic solutions using rich retail data sources.
- Evaluate model performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with global AI teams, researchers, specialists, and colleagues to identify and lead new opportunities.
Essential Qualifications
Education
A Master's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field is required. Alternatively, a Ph.D. in a related field may be considered with less experience.
Experience
- A minimum of 7 years of experience as a data or AI researcher, including participation in advanced AI activities (regression, clustering, and forecasting).
- At least 2 years of experience working with large volumes of data and solving business problems.
- Experience in developing and deploying data science solutions, including problem statement development, feature engineering, model development, evaluation, testing, and deployment.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in programming languages, including Python, SQL, R, SAS, and JavaScript.
- Strong understanding of machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling techniques.
- Experience with data mining, text mining, and data control.
- Knowledge of data pipeline engineering, distributed systems, database engineering, and linear programming.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
A Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field is preferred.
Experience
- Experience working with Hive or Hadoop, AI, text mining, and Flash.
- Familiarity with risk analysis and data control.
