The Opportunity
We are currently hiring part-time K-8th tutors to work with students in all subject areas, including mathematics, reading, language arts, science, social studies, and standardized test preparation. This position offers a unique blend of flexibility, professional growth, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on students' academic trajectories. Unlike traditional teaching roles, this position allows you to focus on what you do best—teaching and mentoring—without the burden of lesson planning, homework grading, or administrative tasks that often accompany full-time teaching positions.
As a tutor at arenaflex, you will work with students in a one-on-one setting or in small groups of up to four students. This intimate learning environment allows you to build strong relationships with your students, understand their unique learning styles, and provide personalized instruction that addresses their specific needs. Whether you are helping a struggling student master basic reading skills or guiding a motivated learner through advanced mathematics concepts, you will have the opportunity to see firsthand the impact of your teaching on student achievement and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver Personalized Instruction: Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions in all K-8th grade subjects, adapting teaching methods to meet each student's unique learning needs and preferences.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Teach core academic subjects including mathematics, reading, language arts, science, and social studies, as well as standardized test preparation for state assessments and college entrance exams.
- Assess Student Progress: Evaluate students' academic strengths and areas for improvement through informal assessments and observation, then adjust instruction accordingly to ensure continued progress.
- Create Positive Learning Environments: Foster a supportive, encouraging, and engaging learning atmosphere that motivates students to actively participate and take ownership of their learning.
- Document Session Progress: Maintain accurate records of student sessions, progress, and achievements to communicate effectively with parents and program coordinators.

Qualifications and Requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Must possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Degrees in education, teaching, or a content-related field are strongly preferred, but we welcome applicants from all academic backgrounds who have a genuine passion for teaching.
- Teaching Certification: Current teaching certification, paraprofessional certification, or state teaching license is a plus but not required. We value experience and dedication above formal credentials.
- Commitment to Student Success: Must demonstrate a genuine passion for helping students learn and succeed, with a caring and patient approach to education.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in simple, understandable terms.
- Reliability and Professionalism: Must be dependable, punctual, and maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
- Location Requirement: Must be able to reliably commute to our Chattanooga, TN location (37421) or plan to relocate before starting work.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior tutoring or teaching experience, whether in a classroom setting, private tutoring, or informal teaching environments.
- Experience working with students in kindergarten through 8th grade.
- Familiarity with state curriculum standards and standardized testing requirements.
- Knowledge of various teaching methodologies and learning strategies for diverse learners.
- Previous experience in test preparation instruction, such as SAT, ACT, or state assessments.
- Bilingual language skills are a plus, as we serve a diverse community of students and families.
