Role Description
Penn State’s Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) in the Office for Research Protections (ORP) is seeking motivated and experienced IRB Analysts to join two of our review teams. We are recruiting for two fully remote positions—one supporting the Full Board review team and one supporting the Expedited/Exempt review team.
The IRB Analyst will report to a Senior Team Lead and will collaborate with all members of the HRPP. Responsibilities include:
• Maintain appropriate documentation of compliance reviews and determinations as required by federal regulations and by University policy.
• Assist faculty, students, and staff in preparing human research protocols, develop and maintain IRB training materials.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for virtual seminars/workshops at University Park, the College of Medicine, and other campus locations.
• Interact with other University compliance committees and various offices such as the Office of Research Information Systems, Office of Sponsored Programs, Office of General Counsel, and Office of Information Security.
• Collaborate in creating, reviewing, and updating IRB policies and guidelines, standard operating procedures, and submission forms.
The Full Board review position will focus on:
• Review of full board research protocols as well as full board meeting management tasks.
The Expedited/Exempt review position will focus on:
• Review of exempt and expedited human research protocols as well as not human research determinations.
Qualifications
• Experience with human subject research or related activities is required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required.
• Knowledge of and experience with electronic data management systems is strongly desired.
• Ability to work efficiently in a complex regulatory environment is critical.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects with meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and demonstrate significant autonomy and judgment.
• CIP (Certified IRB Professional) credential is required within one year of eligibility.
• Knowledge of federal regulations and professional standards regarding the protection of human research participants or experience in conducting human research is preferred.
Requirements
• Location of this position is flexible and can operate within the United States in a 100% remote arrangement.
• Standard working hours are in the eastern time zone.
• Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
