The Finance Director will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, managing cash flow, supporting job costing, and maintaining compliance with industry-specific financial regulations. This is a key leadership position reporting directly to ownership and working closely with project managers, estimators, and external auditors. The Finance Director will play a key strategic role by providing data-driven decision making as an enabler to company growth objectives.
Responsibilities
Financial Management & ReportingOversee month-end and year-end close processesPrepare financial statements and management reportsMaintain the general ledger and chart of accountsMonitor and manage cash flow, accounts payable, and accounts receivableEnsure compliance with GAAP and internal financial policiesJob Costing & Project AccountingMaintain accurate job cost tracking for all construction projects while collaborating with project managers to analyze and improve project profitabilityReceive and review monthly PM report by 5th of each monthReview and reconcile WIP schedules and percent-complete revenue recognitionAssist with bid pricing and post-project financial analysisEnsure invoices are verified Work with Project Managers to ensure Pay App are processed on 15th of each monthWeekly budget review each Thursday afternoon with Project ManagersLeadership & OversightManage and mentor accounting staff (including future hires) to support scalable financial structureCoordinate annual audits and tax preparation with external CPA firmOversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with labor regulationsImplement internal controls and process improvementsEnsure payments processed for sub-contractors and other vendorsCollaborate with owner’s accounting and project teams to resolve outstanding accounts receivable swiftlyModels Narcomey’s core valuesSystems & ComplianceMaintain and optimize accounting software systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage 100 Contractor)Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax filingsMaintain vendor and subcontractor compliance, including W-9sAdminister lien waivers, pay apps, and retainage trackingKey Performance Indicators (KPIs)Month-End Close Timeline: Complete within 7 business daysAccuracy of Job Costing Reports: ≥98% accuracyCash Flow Forecasting Accuracy: ≤5% variance from actualsAudit & Tax Filing Timeliness: 100% compliance with deadlinesAP & AR Aging: No more than 5% past due over 60 daysInternal Control Compliance: Zero material findings in audits Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related fieldCPA designation preferred but not requiredMinimum of 10 years accounting experience, with 5+ years in construction or project-based accountingPrior experience as a Finance Director or Controller preferredProficient with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage 100 Contractor)Strong knowledge of GAAP, job costing, and WIP reportingAdvanced Excel and financial modeling skillsExceptional organizational and communication skillsDetail-oriented with a problem-solving mindsetKnowledgeable of compliance regulations in Davis-Bacon and TEROCompetency in local Bonding requirements
