Key Responsibilities

• Implement individual or small group instructional lessons under the supervision of a certified teacher, ensuring that students receive the support and guidance they need to succeed.
• Familiarize yourself with IEP goals and objectives for students in the classroom, working closely with the certified teacher to develop and implement personalized learning plans.
• Facilitate the implementation of functional community-based curriculum, providing students with opportunities to develop essential life skills and independence.
• Follow through on set behavioral programs and procedures, maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment for all students.
• Document student behavior as directed by the teacher, providing valuable insights and feedback to support student growth and development.
• Supervise IEP'd students during lunch, recess, arrival and departure times, and/or community trips during assigned work hours as needed, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
• Help in the loading and unloading of student buses at school and on trips during assigned work hours as needed, demonstrating a commitment to student safety and transportation.
• Escort students within the building, as directed by the classroom teacher, providing support and guidance as needed.
• Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher by assisting with any related activity specific to the students' IEP, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and collaboration.
• Collaborate with the teacher, prepare and maintain materials, and provide input to the classroom teacher regarding student-para interactions, ensuring that students receive the support and guidance they need to succeed.
• Attend staff meetings and staff development activities as assigned, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
• Other duties as assigned, demonstrating a commitment to flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic educational environment.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

• A Para Educator, Substitute, Professional Educator, or Provisional Educator License, with a minimum education requirement of completion of at least 60 semester hours of college coursework or a passing score on the ETS Para Pro exam or two specific Work Keys exams.
• Bilingual – Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents in both languages.
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents to achieve common goals.
• Experience working with students in an educational setting, preferably in a special education or exceptional needs program.
• Physical agility and quick response time, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform other physical demands of the job.

• Experience working with students with cognitive challenges in the moderate to severe range.
• Knowledge of functional community-based curriculum and its application in a special education setting.
• Experience with behavioral programs and procedures, including positive behavioral supports and interventions.
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to collaboration and communication.
