The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is dedicated to environmental stewardship for the health of North Carolinians. The Engineer I position involves providing project oversight of hazardous waste management facilities to ensure compliance with environmental permits and conducting technical reviews of related documents.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical reviews and evaluations of RCRA corrective action documents and oversee groundwater compliance for hazardous waste management facilities
- Review and modify closure and post-closure plans and conduct technical reviews and evaluations of hazardous waste management permit applications
- Interact with EPA Region 4 and department personnel
- Provide technical information to the public and facilities
- Keep track of facility compliance activities and progress on projects
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors
