About the position
Responsibilities
• Coordinate with WLRD, WTD, NMFS and/or USFWS for ESA Section 7 consultation procedures.
• Gather, analyze, and interpret scientific data related to fish and wildlife conservation.
• Evaluate the effects of WLRD and WTD actions on aquatic and terrestrial species and habitats.
• Research and recommend Best Available Science (BAS) and Best Management Practices (BMPs).
• Prepare or contribute to drafting biological opinions and consultation letters.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of KC WLRD/WTD project permitting.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in biological science or natural resource management.
• At least five years of experience assessing environmental impacts of construction projects on aquatic species.
• Understanding of ESA-listed species in the Puget Sound region.
• Experience coordinating between project proponents and agencies regarding environmental impacts.
• Experience gathering and analyzing scientific data and writing technical reports.
Nice-to-haves
• In-depth knowledge of Puget Sound salmon species and their habitat needs.
• Research and/or monitoring experience assessing aquatic species and habitats.
• Master's Degree in biological sciences or natural resource management.
