Job Summary:
We’re a Houston, TX-based construction company seeking a reliable Estimating/Preconstruction Coordinator to support our estimating team with takeoffs, subcontractor outreach, supplier pricing, and proposal organization—especially on federal/government opportunities. This is a great fit for someone organized, persistent, and comfortable following up to get quotes.
Key Responsibilities:
• Perform quantity takeoffs from drawings/specs (as assigned): earthwork/sitework, utilities, concrete, paving, etc.
• Create and maintain bid tabs, quote logs, subcontractor lists, and coverage tracking.
• Send ITBs to subcontractors, follow up for quotes, confirm scope coverage, and document inclusions/exclusions.
• Request material quotes from suppliers/vendors, track lead times, gather alternates, and maintain pricing backups.
• Organize plans/specs/addenda and ensure estimating folders and bid-day files are clean and consistent.
• Assist with proposal coordination: compliance checklists, document formatting, attachments, and submission requirements.
• Track RFIs, addenda acknowledgements, and action items.
• Support turnover: compile estimate backups and scope clarifications for operations.
Federal Contracting Requirements (Must Have):
• Some experience supporting federal/government construction bids (estimating support, proposal coordination, compliance admin, or similar).
• Familiarity with core concepts like CLIN pricing structure, addenda tracking, and compliance checklists.
• Basic awareness of Davis-Bacon / prevailing wage impacts (preferred but not required if you learn fast).
• Comfortable using portals (e.g., SAM.gov or agency systems) to pull documents, track amendments, and support submissions.
Qualifications:
Required
• 2+ years in estimating support, preconstruction, or construction admin with takeoffs/pricing exposure.
• Strong organization and follow-up skills (you can “hunt” quotes and close gaps).
• Proficient in Excel and PDF review/markups.
• Clear communication and professionalism with subs/suppliers.
Preferred:
• Bluebeam and/or Planswift/STACK/OST experience.
• Experience building subcontractor coverage lists and leveling quote comparisons.
• Familiarity with construction terminology and reading plans/specs.
What Success Looks Like:
• Quote coverage is solid early (not last-minute).
• Pricing backups are complete and organized.
• Addenda and compliance items are tracked with zero surprises.
• Senior estimator spends time on strategy/pricing—not chasing admin gaps.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $10.00 - $25.00 per hour
