Specialty Program Group Canada (SPG Canada) is a leading Delegated Underwriting Authority Enterprise focused on providing innovative insurance solutions. They are seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter to join their Strata Underwriting team, where the successful candidate will build broker relationships and drive growth and profitability through risk analysis and underwriting decisions. Responsibilities - Perform risk analysis using internal and external data resources for the purpose of quoting, negotiating, and authorizing the renewal of existing policies and acceptance of new opportunities for risks of a low to moderate complexity, based on guidelines and retention goals of the company - Handle endorsement requests within delegated authority and independently engage with brokers to clarify intent of requests or seek missing information - Develop and support professional business partnerships with brokers by providing prompt service, responding to inquiries, acting proactively, taking ownership of issues, and resolving them with a solution-oriented approach - Communicate underwriting decisions and respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner - Make underwriting decisions based on imperfect information, where required - Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external parties, including attending industry-related seminars and networking events as necessary - Negotiate coverage with brokers within delegated authority parameters - Manage, strengthen, and grow a book of profitable business - Maintain compliance with established corporate guidelines and delegated authority parameters - Work independently to meet deadlines while following company guidelines to accomplish goals - Take ownership of work-related activities and follow through on commitments - Deal effectively with pressure, maintain a positive outlook, and recover quickly from setbacks - Prioritize and complete tasks to deliver desired outcomes within allocated time frames - Take personal responsibility and action toward learning and implementing new ideas, methods, and technologies - Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal - Exhibit good decision-making and analytical skills - Document assigned files to ensure completeness, compliance, and quality in line with documentation standards, maintaining a paper-free environment by uploading documents to company systems - Complete loss reports and post-claim underwriting reviews Skills - Have 1 – 3 year of commercial P&C underwriting or commercial brokering experience - Experience with Commercial Property risks (Residential Realty, Strata, Condos, Townhomes, etc.) is considered an asset - Hold a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation (or are actively pursuing) - Hold a broker license, or can qualify to obtain within 90 days - Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Familiar with the basic legal structures in Canada Benefits - Dental care - Extended health care - Paid time-off - RRSP match - Vision care Company Overview - At SPG Canada, we are insurance entrepreneurs united by a bold vision: to aggregate strengths and deliver unmatched value as Canada's largest Delegated Underwriting Authority Enterprise (DUAE).
