The CAD Technician I supports Infrastructure Engineering projects by producing accurate CAD drawings and converting field data into construction documents that comply with standards.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain CAD drawings, base maps, plan sheets, details, and exhibits using AutoCAD in accordance with established CAD and design standards
- Develop drawings depicting existing conditions (topography, utilities, right of way, easements, site/floor plans) and proposed OSP and telecommunications infrastructure
- Convert field notes, sketches, redlines, permits, and verbal or written direction into clean, accurate, and coordinated CAD deliverables
- Collect, review, and organize records from city, county, state, and utility agencies, including tax maps, surveys, utility maps, and construction drawings
- Perform self checks and participate in peer Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with standards
- Maintain and update existing design files and documentation throughout the project lifecycle
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other technicians to meet scope, schedule, and quality expectations
- May conduct periodic field visits or site walks to verify existing conditions and support design development
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic CAD related technical issues and support continuous improvement of drafting processes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills
- Associate degree in ComputerAided Design (CAD), Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field
- Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience working as a CAD Technician, preferably within the telecommunications industry
- Proven experience in creating detailed technical drawings and plans using CAD software
- Familiarity with telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optics, cable layouts, and network schematics
- Experience in collaborating with engineers and project managers to interpret design specifications and translate them into technical drawings
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; exposure to Civil 3D, GIS (e.g., ArcGIS), or 3D modeling tools
- Strong understanding of drafting standards, engineering principles, and telecommunications design requirements
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate and precise drawings
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills to identify and resolve design discrepancies or technical issues
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, effectively communicating with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
- Familiarity with industry specific regulations and standards related to telecommunications infrastructure
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information clearly and concisely
- Willingness to adapt to new technologies and continuously improve technical skills through ongoing training and development
- Strong understanding of civil based infrastructure drafting, including survey data, utility maps, easements, GPS/GIS data, and construction documentation
- Demonstrates professionalism, dependability, punctuality, and the ability to perform under deadline pressure
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 applications and PDF markup tools (e.g., Bluebeam)
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field
