Job Description - Institutional Giving Manager Position: Institutional Giving Manager Reports to: Director of Development Status: Exempt, Non-Union Location: Main Headquarters, 1171 Mission St and Remote Salary: $70,000-$85,000 About Community Forward SF: Community Forward SF is changing the way women receive homeless services in San Francisco. For over 45 years, we’ve led the way in innovative, compassionate, community-based care for chronically homeless and disenfranchised individuals—especially women, older adults, and those with severe medical or mental health needs. We operate the city’s only 24/7 drop-in center for women experiencing homelessness and provide a full continuum of care, including mental health services, gender-specific recovery programs, medical respite, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing. Our person-centered model emphasizes dignity, empowerment, and healing, and our staff reflects the communities we serve—many with lived experience of homelessness. We also lead on systems change, having helped create the SF Women’s Housing Coalition and advancing gender-focused policy at the local, state, and national levels. Position Summary: As part of the Development team, the Institutional Giving Manager will play a vital role in helping Community Forward SF achieve its goal to grow and deepen our impact in the San Francisco area by managing relationships with institutional funders. This position is responsible for managing grantor relationships, writing and submitting comprehensive proposals, tracking grant requirements and milestones, completing timely reports, and managing internal records of Community Forward SF's private and public funding from institutional funders. The Institutional Giving Manager works collaboratively and strategically with the members of the development team and the Director of Development. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Portfolio Management and Stewardship: Build and maintain relationships with a portfolio of corporate foundations, private foundations, and government funders. Partner with the Director of Development and Executive Leadership to manage institutional funder relationships. In partnership with the Director, set strategic targets for institutional funding and work to identify new opportunities. Employ appropriate stewardship including written and electronic communications, site visits, and in-person meetings to manage relationships with our foundation and government partners. Work with the Director and Development Coordinator to coordinate appropriate engagement opportunities tied to funding agreements. Grant Writing & Reporting: Manage grants processes from prospect research to application planning, to writing, to application compilation and submission, to award review, signature, and tracking. Identify and evaluate all potential public and private grant opportunities, present them to the Director and the Development Team, and demonstrate the application of financial alignment, program and service sustainability, strategic alignment, implementation needs/requirements, and application complexity/requirements. Develop, write, and submit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, budgets, and periodic and final reports. Create and maintain a master calendar of grant applications, commitments, and reports. Oversee all grant reporting, working with staff across the organization to ensure grant and donor requirements are met, and necessary data is collected, documented, and reported. Maintain a comprehensive record of all pending, awarded, and declined grants using CRM or other designated organizational databases Other responsibilities Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development and Executive Leadership. Provide hands-on event logistics support for annual friend raisers, fundraising and other development events. Preferred Qualifications: Minimum of three years of work experience in grant writing and fundraising, preferably within a non-profit organization. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Journalism or Communications, or related field. Proven track record of securing grants from foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Knowledge of funding prospects. Organized with strong attention to detail and superior problem-solving abilities Exceptional time-management and organizational skills, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. Ability to foster and maintain working relationships built on mutual trust and respect with staff, community members, guests, and donors. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently under a direct supervisor and collaboratively. Technical savvy with a variety of office technologies (e.g., Google Suite, Zoom, Microsoft) Demonstrated ability and willingness to continuously acquire new competencies and accept new challenges.
